Review: The Art of Leadership - Calgary 2014

On September 8th The Art of Leadership Sponsored by Microsoft returned to Calgary (regardless of the snow) for another sold out, inspiring event! This year’s lineup included: Former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, Canada’s favourite Astronaut, Col. Chris Hadfield, 4x Olympic Gold champion Hayley Wickenheiser and Bestselling Authors: Dan Roam and Dr. Vince Molinaro.

The morning started off great with a huge buzz around the speaker lineup and what the day would hold. Many thanks to Bruce Sellery for hosting our event!

 

First up was Rudy Giuliani to speak on his experience as a leader during one of the hardest times in American history. Giuliani educated through his personal experience that created a learning style which resided with everyone in the room:

 

Next to take the stage was Col. Chris Hadfield who was so well received in Calgary at last year’s conference that The Art Of had to bring him back!

 

Even Hayley Wickenheiser was enjoying the presentation before her own…

 

Next to take the stage was Bestselling Author, Dan Roam. Dan is known for his bestselling book The Back of The Napkin which emphasizes on creativity to solve problems:

Speaker, Dr. Vince Molinaro of Knightsbridge jumped in on the Twitter conversation #TheArtOf to share his positive thoughts on the speakers of the morning!

 

The conversations happening over our official hashtag (#TheArtOf) were fantastic! Everyone was enthusiastic about The Art of Leadership which brought the ideal conference atmosphere for motivating, inspiring and networking.

 

After a lunch break The Art of Leadership resumed with our exclusive Executive Panel featuring: Anna Murray, Corporate Affairs at Talisman Energy, Arlene Strom, Vice President Sustainability & Communications at Suncor Energy, Lorne Rubis, Chief People Officer at ATB Financial and Mike Hilton, Regional Director of Partners at Microsoft Canada. Great conversation made for great learning and key takeaways:

Following our Executive Panel was Dr. Vince Molinaro, Bestselling Author of The Leadership Contract . He motivated and inspired the audience to lead to their fullest potential:

 

Last, but definitely not least was Hayley Wickenheiser. She spoke on her experience with her teammates throughout the years and her gold medal journey at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. Hayley transferred her experience into learnings the whole audience could take away from. Hayley was so well received by the audience at our inaugural event: The Art of Leadership for Women in Toronto that we at The Art Of knew she needed to return to the stage in our other key cities: Calgary and coming up, The Art of Leadership in Vancouver (September 30th).

 

All in all the takeaways from the day were priceless and are already being applied througout the city of Calgary:

 

In conclusion the day was a huge success. 1,800 of Calgary’s most influential business leaders filled the room and gained a strong competitive advantage by learning from a few of the world’s most world renowned leaders.
